Sucking Up:
Don't look for BARBRA STREISAND to be singing for PRESIDENT OBAMA anytime soon. Reuters reports that Babs will not be offering up any tunes for the president at his next fundraising stop in Southern California, although she still supports his re-election.
There were rumors that she was going to sing at a big-dollar event scheduled for a May 10th hosted by DreamWorks honcho JEFFREY KATZENBERG. (Pacelli)Easter Egg-citement:
What's the only thing better than Easter candy? Buying the good stuff at a deep discount the day after.
The blog The Nerdist offers these candy-buying tips for Monday-after bargain hunters:
--Get there early. If the signs only offer 25 to 30 percent off, walk out, that's basically regular price. If you see 40 percent off or more, it's time to shop.
--Get the brand-named candy bars --your Snickers, your M&Ms, your Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. It's the candy you love, but priced to move because all the wrappers are pastel-colored. Load up and it will carry you through until the November's day-after Halloween sales.
--Candy that features a licensed cartoon character is usually your low-quality chocolate.
--Cadbury Mini-Eggs offer the chocolate goodness of the creme eggs, but without the messy residue.
--Just ignore the calorie-count on the front of M&M wrappers! (Bartha)Mall Alert:
The country's largest retailers posted solid sales results in March, with luxury stores turning in especially strong performances. They credit the mild weather and an Early Easter for bringing out shoppers. Nordstrom, for example, says its comparable-store sales jumped almost nine percent in March, and at Saks, sales climbed six percent, fueled by a strong demand for women's apparel; fine jewelry; handbags; and men's accessories, shoes, and clothing. Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
It's fair to assume BRISTOL PALIN isn't happy that LEVI JOHNSTON is expecting another child. Her lawyer sassed to TMZ.com last week that he hasn't made a child support payment for their son, TRIPP, since June of 2010 and his balance is a whopping $38,000. Seems the daughter of SARAH PALIN chose not to pursue collection because any garnishment of his wages would "exacerbate an already strained relationship." (Lee)
TV Briefs:
E! Online reports SELENA GOMEZ's hit song, "Love You Like a Love Song," will be featured on an upcoming episode of "Glee."
MATT LAUER confirmed Friday morning that he had signed a new deal to remain as host of the "Today" show, saying "Truth be told, I was developing an idea for a new show, where viewers could tune in every morning and see someone they know lose a little more of his hair every single day right in front of their eyes. But then I thought, I could just stay here and do that."
He did not confirm his rumored salary figure: $30 million a year. If he gets four-weeks vacation a year, that means the new contract gives him $125-thousand each day he's on the air at "Today." -
