Taxes due tomorrow:
The 2012 due date for personal income tax is tomorrow --Tue, Apr 17, since Apr 15th, the traditional deadline for personal income taxes, falls on a Sunday.
In addition, today is Emancipation Day, a holiday in Washington, DC, which means the tax deadline was pushed to Tuesday.
In case you're interested, the IRS says if you're sending in a return, you're one of the 144 million it expects to get this year.Guilty Pleasures:
No winner in Saturday night's drawing for the Powerball Lottery. That means Wednesday night's drawing is valued at $131 million ($81.4 million cash value). Powerball is played in 44 states, Washington, DC and the U-S Virgin Islands. Chances of winning the grand prize (all five numbers plus the powerball) are 1 in 195.2 million.
Sucking up:
Did you see ELISE TESTONE give a feather earring to STEVEN TYLER on "American Idol" last week? Turns out the present wasn't just for the AEROSMITH singer, but her buddy, SARAH POE. Seems Ms. Poe makes custom feather accessories and received a mint in free publicity! The jewelry designer tells TMZ.com her Facebook page, email and phones have been going crazy since the episode aired. If you're interested, the piece given to Mr. Tyler retails for $125. (Lee)
Designer Update:
With BRAD PITT and ANGELINA JOLIE engaged, everyone wants to hear about The Ring. You know, One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them. So who is responsible for forging Our Precious from deep within the fires of Mordor? That would be designer ROBERT PROCOP. But with a lot of input from His Bradness.
Fashionista.com says that Procop sourced the diamond "of the finest quality" then transformed it "with a distinctive faceting that perfectly suits Angie's long, slender pictures." The ring's creation--which included a diamond elongated tablet-shaped centerpiece and the mounting of "a galaxy of smaller stones graduated in size and faceted to match, took about a year to finish. And now the age of Sauron's rule is upon is. (Bartha)Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:
AXL ROSE didn't show up, but the rest of the original GUNS N' ROSES lineup not only accepted their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday night, they also peformed two classic tunes. ALTER BRIDGE frontman MYLES KENNEDY was at the mic for "Paradise City" and "Sweet Child O' Mine." It was the first time the guys shared a stage in more than 20 years and the sold-out crowd at Cleveland's Public Hall loved every minute of it.
GREEN DAY inducted the band, and even though the mention of Axl's name brought up some boos, BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG said Axl is (quote), "one of the best frontmen to ever touch a microphone." Green Day opened the show with "Letterbomb" from their album, "American Idiot."
The other big disappointment was ROD STEWART skipping his induction with THE FACES. Rod came down with the flu and just couldn't be there. MICK HUCKNALL of SIMPLY RED took over the mic for the SMALL FACES hit, "All Or Nothing," and two Faces classics, "Ooh La La" and "Stay With Me." Mick has performed with the surviving Faces a few times so this was just another gig for him.
ADAM YAUCH of inductees the BEASTIE BOYS was also a no show. No one said why, but Adam does have cancer, so perhaps he wasn't feeling well. This year's ceremonies lasted nearly six hours, and you'll be able to see the highlights May 5th on HBO. (Marino)Taking everything much too seriously:
Manufacturers of a new bath plug designed to look like a sinking Titanic are under fire for being "distasteful and sick."
Orange.co.uk says a plastic ship attached to the "Tubtanic" drain plug appears to sink as the bath water level rises. Manufacturer Paladone says the plug lets people "re-enact the famous sinking-ship scene in the comfort of your own bathtub."
But, RON WILLIAMS, who lost his uncle on the Titanic in 1912, says, "I think it's terrible people are trying to make money from something that killed so many."
Editor's note: I wonder what he thinks of James Cameron. (Still) -
