Bank robbers in Los Angeles hoping to foil police in pursuit tossed cash from their getaway vehicle during a high-speed chase, causing people to flood the street to scoop up the cash.
It didn't work.
A police spokesman told local TV, "If they thought throwing money out the window would distract us or have people get in the way and block us --they're going to run out of money. We're not going to run out of sheriff's deputies."
The pursuit ended shortly afterwards when a pickup truck blocked the suspects' vehicle as police boxed them in. They arrested two men as several hundred people swarmed in, hoping perhaps to get a little more cash.
No word on how much was stolen or how much was scattered. (Maiman)TV Briefs:
Whoopsie!
Big problems for MARTHA STEWART, EMERIL LEGASSE and the Home Shopping Network.
They are the recipients of a trademark infringement lawsuit for selling knockoff knives. The knives, endorsed by Martha and Emeril, supposedly come from Solingen, Germany, but in fact are manufactured in China.
Now, Deadline.com reports a German Chamber of Commerce has decided to take the issue to court and could wind up taking a large chunk of both Martha Stewart Living and the Home Shopping Network in damages.Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
JUSTIN BIEBER is Canadian so hockey is in his blood. But, he may actually be good enough with a stick to play on a team... well, minor league anyway. The Bakersfield Condors of California have offered The Bieber a tryout for the upcoming season. The Coach says Justin has a great right-handed shot which could benefit the team. No word from Bieber's people if the singer even wants to try out, but the Condors will give him his favorite number, six, on his jersey if he decided to skate for them. (Marino)
Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places:
Remember the art exhibit in Ukraine where real "sleeping beauties" promised to marry whomever woke them with a kiss? Well, we have a winner (video).
Orange.co.uk says visitors have been flocking to the National Art Museum in the city of Kiev to catch a glimpse of artist TARAS POLATAIKO's interactive project. Five attractive young women took turns sleep at the gallery, promising to marry the "prince" who woke them up first. But, 24-year-old sleeping model YANA GURZHIY was shocked when she woke up to find another woman kissing her!
Before the kiss, both the model and the female participant signed a contract agreeing to the marriage deal. However, it's not enforceable since Ukraine doesn't allow gay marriage.
As for her new "prince", the model says, "She's a very interesting person, so I hope we'll have some kind of professional and creative partnership." (Still) -
