What's the Buzz:
Salvage experts are going to try and right the capsized cruise ship Costa Condordia today. During the next 12 hours, dozens of pulleys will be attached to the ship, as engineers try to rotate it upright. Then, they'll see what kind of damage it has and try to re-float the ship.
The other option --of breaking up the ship where it sits-- was not considered because the ship is in the middle of Europe's biggest marine sanctuary for whales, dolphins and the last surviving monk seals.Guilty Pleasures:
No winner in Saturday night's drawing for the Powerball Lottery. That means Wednesday night's drawing is valued at $400 million ($223.6 million cash value). Powerball is played in 44 states, Washington, DC and the U-S Virgin Islands. Chances of winning the grand prize (all five numbers plus the powerball) are 1 in 175.2 million.
The Airlines:
Hey, at least give 'em credit for owning their mistake.
Last week, air travelers visiting United Airlines' website discovered, much to their pleasant surprise, that plane tickets were incredibly cheap. In fact, they were practically free.
What happened was, someone at United accidentally flagged certain trips as costing zero dollars, and customers who purchased their tickets in the two hours it allegedly took the airline to fix the problem only had to pay a few extra dollars in security and airport fees. People rushed to buy tickets.
When the dust settled on the pricey glitch, the airline was left with the question of whether or not to honor the tickets that were sold during the inadvertent fire sale. United eventually decided to honor the sale.
It remains unclear how many tickets United gave away or how much the "mistake fares" will end up costing the company.
