Small-town politics:
HILLARY CLINTON and CHRIS CHRISTIE can learn a thing or two from a forward-thinking politician named MIA MAVROMICHALIS. The teenager ran into JOE JONAS at a Los Angeles Kings game last Monday and asked the heartthrob to endorse her for student council president. The musician gladly agreed, taped an eight-second video spot, the Culver City High School student posted it to Instagram and won the election on Wednesday morning.
Joe joked to TMZ that he's opening a political ad firm that's only open for high school and college campaigns when he's attending sporting events. (Lee)Sucking the life out of the wire services:
JENNIFER LAWRENCE is a bona-fide hottie and has the title to prove it. The young Oscar-winner was just named the Sexiest Woman in the World by FHMfor 2014! The editors find her "so freaking awesome" for photo-bombing TAYLOR SWIFT, receiving flowers and champagne from JACK NICHOLSON, her adorable pixie haircut and more. Here's the list of ladies who made the top ten:
10. SCARLETT JOHANSSON
9. NICOLE SCHERZINGER
8. LUCY MECHLENBURG from "The Only Way is Essex"
7. BEYONCE
6. MILA KUNIS
5. KALEY CUOCO from "The Big Bang Theory"
4. EMILY RATAJKOWSKI --the sexy naked girl from the "Blurred Lines" video
3. RIHANNA
2. British actress MICHELLE KEEGAN
1. JENNIFER LAWRENCE (Lee)On, off and way-off Broadway:
Another Tony nominated show is about to close. The musical, "Bridges Of Madison County" scored four nominations, including Best Lead Actress for KELLI O'HARA, but producers announced yesterday that May 18th will be the final performance. That's just three weeks before the Tonys get handed out on June 8th. (Marino)
Designer Update:
There's a British shoe designer who claims to have created "the world's most comfortable stiletto." With a a one thousand year guarantee. Designer CHRIS SHELLIS of the House of Borgezie has fashioned these cozy stilettos out of the same stuff as your kitchen cutlery. The Stainless Steel and Sterling Silver Stiletto gets its supposed one thousand year's worth of comfort from the slope of the shoe, plus silicone liners on the toe strap and rear heel. There's also a patented removable heart-shaped sole, which can be replaced with spares upon wear and tear. All that for the bargain basement price of $1,672 dollars.
Yahoo News says the reason for the thousand-year warranty is simple: Shellis says he wants the shoes to be heirlooms that women can pass down to their daughters and granddaughters. He called them "a good investment." (Bartha)The Kentucky Derby:
Known as the Greatest Two Minutes In Sports, the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of the Triple Crown, is Saturday afternoon in Louisville. The one and a quarter mile race for three-year-old thoroughbreds is run annually in Louisville, KY, on the first Saturday in May.
The field was narrowed to 20 horses Wednesday, based on the amount of money each horse made in their stakes races before the big event, which is expected to draw a quarter million fans through what's now become a weekend bash. Women appear in fine outfits lavishly accessorized with large, elaborate hats. As the horses are paraded before the grandstands, the University of Louisville marching band plays Stephen Foster's "My Old Kentucky Home." The race is also called the Run for the Roses because a lush blanket of 554 red roses is awarded to the Kentucky Derby winner each year.
This year's favorite is California Chrome, currently at 9-to-4 odds. (Entire field listed below)
Editor's note: For me the Kentucky Derby is a lot like sex. It's over in two minutes and costs me $100. You're welcome. (Maiman)Odds to win the Derby (Bovada Sportsbook):
