Health and Medical Briefs:
A Chinese man suffered a detached retina after he spent too much time texting his girlfriend in the dark on a cell phone.
The NY Daily News reports the 26-year-old began seeing flashes in front of his eyes after spending hour after hour on non-stop on his smartphone while at work and even in bed, in the dark.
When he finally went to the doctor, the exam revealed his left retina had become completely detached, and he had to have emergency surgery to have had his sight restored.
Medical experts believe that, despite retinal detachment being more common among older people, the actual average age of patients is decreasing due to excessive cell phone activity.Off the beaten path:

FREDERIC LEQUIN of Notre-Dame de Bellecombe will perform the blessings this Sunday during Pentecostal celebrations. Lequin explains, "We must remember that the blessing of communication devices is written into the tradition of the Church".
