Sucking Up:
Former CLINTON White House spokesman MIKE McCURRY has said again that he thinks there's a pretty good chance HILLARY CLINTON will not run for president. During an interview with CHRIS RIBAK on TAEGAN GODDARD's "Political Wire" podcast, he said, "I think she's struggling with it. And I think... you know, she'll be... closing in on age 70 if she got elected... And I think there's a reasonable proposition for her to decide, 'Look, all the stuff I'm doing now is more rewarding than running for president and ending up back in Washington in a very polarized environment.'" Gossip Central:
Dont' expect ANGELINA JOLIE to run for political office. The actress tells Us Weekly magazine, "If I thought I'd be effective, I would. But I'm not sure if I'd ever be taken seriously." (Myers)
Father's Day:
It looks like "experience" gifts and gift cards will be most popular way to show Dad some love this Father's Day. The National Retail Federation expects Father's Day spending to decline a bit to $12.5 billion; that works out to a prediction that those who celebrate the day will spend about $114, compared with $120 last year.
Some 43 percent of respondents to the NRF survey say they'll treat their father to an event or meal, spending $2.5 billion. Gift cards come next at $1.8 billion, closely followed by apparel, (including the ever-popular neckties and gag barbecue aprons) which will also represent $1.8 billion in spending.
Brand Keys expects an increase in Father's Day spending, with its research indicating shoppers will spend 7.5 percent more on dad this year than last, and spend an average of $145.
Brand Keys also finds that after a dining excursion (48 percent of respondents), gift cards will be the most popular gift, (45 percent).
Tools and automotive gifts, and wine and spirits, are each up five percent as gifts for Pop. And appearing on the survey in a meaningful way for the first time --Spa services. (Kaye)Chic Sh*t:
MELISSA McCARTHY says she was turned down by five or six "high level" designers when she went to the Oscars two years ago. Redbook magazine says that's the reason she designed her own gown for the big event, and why she's teaming up with couturier DANIELLA PEARL to create a line of plus-sized clothing. (Bartha)
Hoops:
It'll be the San Antonio Spurs' depth against LeBRON JAMES and the two-time defending champions Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. Game 1 is tonight in San Antonio; the Spurs are a four and a half point favorite at the Vegas betting sites.
AUSTIN MAHONE will sing the national anthem tonight before Game 1 of the NBA Finals. ABC will carry Austin's performance live, along with the rest of the game. Austin is from San Antonio, and that's where he'll kick off his North American headlining tour on July 25th.(Marino)
