The Airlines:
This is pretty cool --Qantas Airlines is stepping up their entertainment options on long flights and will be offering it's first-class passengers virtual reality headsets.
The Gear VR headsets are made by Samsung and will also be available in Qantas' first class lounges in Sydney and Melbourne later this month, and on flights between Sydney and LA starting next month. At the local Cop Shop:
The Oswego, Illinois, Police Department brings new meaning to the words protect and serve. People magazine reports the duo popped a motorist for driving through a parking lot to avoid a red light last Sunday, then hauled him in when they discovered a glass marijuana pipe, other drug paraphernalia and a piping hot pizza!
One of the officers made sure the cheesy delight made it's way to a "confused" customer who was quite happy the fuzz didn't pop by chat. (Lee)Reality Round-Up:
Bravo has picked up a 13th season of the reality competition series "Top Chef," and has a casting call underway in five cities --Dallas, Atlanta, NYC, Chicago and LA in February. The final winner of "Top Chef" walks away with a food showcase at the annual Food and Wine Festival, a feature in the prestigious Food & Wine magazine along with $125-thousand dollars! If you're interested, head HERE for more details on how you could join the show.
Anti-Super Bowl programming:
Just a quick note if you've forgotten --the next season of "The Blacklist" debuts on NBC following the Super Bowl.
Puppy Bowl Eleven rolls out on Animal Planet from 3-5 pm (Eastern and Pacific) Sunday. The teams are made up of 85 puppies, from 12-21 weeks old. The puppies are from 37 shelters and rescue groups from 20 states, including California, Florida, Nevada, Iowa, South Carolina and Texas.
Fifty-five of the puppies are in the Starting Lineup competing for the famed title of Bissell MVP (Most Valuable Puppy) with the remaining 30 playing back up. Also... if you're up for it, you can vote for this year's MVP at AnimalPlanet.com.
There are two teams --Fluff and Ruff-- and a scoreboard to help fans get scoring updates during the game. But wait --there's more.
--Halftime will feature 21 kittens in the Bissell Kitty half-time show, along with a performance by (wait for it...) "Katty Furry."
--There will also be a bunch of goat cheerleaders rooting for their favorite players on the sideline.
Plus, in addition to the game, producers will once again have Meep the Bird (@MeepTheBird) "tweeting" his commentary, and there's a slow motion cute cam, a water bowl cam, a kiss cam, and a brand new hamster air show, providing an action packed aerial view of the field.
The bottom line, though, is that all the puppies and kittens that participate in Puppy Bowl get adopted by loving families, and AnimalPlanet.com has info on how to pick one up.The Hallmark Channel's Kitten Bowl begins at 1 pm (Eastern), with some of the players named after football players, including Aaron Pawdgers, Terrell Snuggs, Richard Purrman, Cat Stafford, Jadeveon Clawny and Joe Fluffo, not to mention Stray Matthews, Mario Meowningham, Ryan Fitzcatrick and William "The Litterbox" Purry... and there's more at the Hallmark Channel's website.
And this year once again, there's also a (wait for it...) Fish Bowl scheduled from 3 to 7 pm (Eastern) on the National Geographic Channel.
Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
While you're enjoying KATY PERRY's halftime show at the Super Bowl on Sunday, she'll also be selling you stuff. Variety says Katy has hooked up with Universal Music Group and halftime show sponsor Pepsi to offer up limited edition merchandise to her fans. You won't hear about any of this on the live NBC telecast, but Twitter, YouTube and Shazam will have all the items, with Visa as the official way to pay.
FYI: Katy hinted yesterday that LENNY KRAVITZ may not be her only special guest. She said she's bringing a female artist back and (quote), "When you hear the first ring of the chord, jaws will drop and faces will melt." And, Katy admitted that some of her vocals will be pre-recorded. (Marino)USHER is hosting a big pre-Super Bowl party on Saturday. Billboard.com says it'll be in Scottsdale, Arizona, with live music from JERMAINE DUPRI. Anybody who is anybody in town for the big game will be there. (Marino)
