The Pope visits the US:
Today, the pope will address world leaders at theUnited Nations, participate in an interfaith service at the September 11th Memorial Museum at Ground Zero and celebrate Mass at Madison Square Garden.
He'll also visit a school and take a processional drive through Central Park. (Pacelli)Saturday, the Pope leaves NYC to visit Philadelphia, and will be holding mass at the Cathedral Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul. Afterward, there'll be a trip to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall and a visit to Festival of Families at Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Prayer Vigil with World Meeting of Families.
The Philadelphia visit continue Sunday with a morning visit to a correctional facility, then an afternoon mass for the World Meeting of Families. He leaves for Rome at 8 pm Sunday night.
PS: Insiders say that --like PRESIDENT OBAMA'splane is called "Air Force One" when he's aboard, POPE FRANCIS' Boeing 777 is called "Shepherd One" as he flies around the U.S.
Editor's note: I had dinner in Olde City, around Independence Mall on Wednesday, and the police were busy towing cars out of parking places there --and replacing them with Homeland Security and Secret Service vehicles. Visitors to the city from New Jersey will have to walk across the Ben Franklin Bridge in order to get in to see the Pope, or had to have purchased one of a limited number of tickets to ride a rapid transit line in.
FOX-29 reports the at McDonald's at 10th and Market (near the Mall and City Hall) has doubled the prices on the dollar menu already and Dunkin' Donuts upping every cup by a buck beginning today because they're facing added expenses of getting workers and supplies into the city. (RB)The Internet:
The origami of swaddling a newborn is definitely better understood on video than in diagrams! YouTube is a top choice for how-to videos for mothers: 81 percent of YouTube-watching moms watch how-to videos, compared with 75 percent for the average viewer. New YouTube research finds that 83 percent of moms search for parenting questions online. Of those, three in five prefer online video to answer those questions.
The findings also suggest that 58 percent of YouTube-watching moms search for videos about products before making a purchase: on how to use or assemble products, or how to get the most out of the stuff after buying it. Almost three-quarters (69 percent) of moms surveyed say they'd rather watch a YouTube video than pick up the phone or read a user manual. (Kaye)Damage Control:
VICTORIA BECKHAM wants the world to know shedoes not suffer from incontinence. The SPICE GIRL-turned-fashionista raised eyebrows when she left a party with a wet spot (ahem) "down there," but her rep tells the NY Post's Page Six gossip column that it's "simply the result of the most unfortunate positioning of a spilt drink." (Lee)
Grace notes:
BRITNEY SPEARS has officially become part of the Las Vegas community. The Review-Journal says she now has her own slot machine. The Britney Spears Slot Game is currently on the casino floor at Planet Hollywood where she does her "Piece Of Me" show. You sit in a surround sound iChair and spin the wheels while listening to Britney's hits. The game will also be at other Caesars Entertainmentproperties in Vegas. (Marino)
Casting Call:
LILY-ROSE DEPP --the daughter of JOHNNY DEPPand VANESSA PARADIS-- is apparently gonna be a star. At 16 years old, she's already modelled this year for Chanel, and now has just joined the cast of "The Dancer," playing famed ballet star ISADORA DUNCAN.
The movie is about the life of American dancer LOIE FULLER, who grew up in poverty in San Francisco but became famous as a dance prodigy and pioneered the Serpentine dance. -
