Posturing, Posing, Polling and Press Releases:
Heading into tomorrow night's first Democratic presidential debate, a new CBS News poll gives HILLARY CLINTON A 46-to-27-percent lead over BERNIE SANDERS, with VP JOE BIDEN --still not a declared candidate-- at 16-percent. Those numbers are virtually unchanged from a month ago.
Democratic primary voters see Madame Hillary as the most electable and a strong and experienced leader, but Biden is most widely viewed as honest and trustworthy.
On the GOP side, DONALD TRUMP maintains his spot, leading BEN CARSON at 27-TO-21-percent. TED CRUZ is thirds at nine-percent, with MARCO RUBIO at eight-percent. (Pacelli)The Airlines:
Thousands of passengers were stranded or delayed over the weekend as Southwest Airlines' ticketing system went down. Hundreds of flights were delayed by the technical issues, and the airlines warned passengers who would be flying today that they needed to get to the airport two hours early and print their boarding passes before coming to the airport.
Yesterday, about 450 of the 36-hundred scheduled flights were delayed.
This is not the first time an airlines' ticketing system has had computer problems --in July, hundreds of United Airlines flights were delayed after that airline had problems with its reservation system.
Neither airline has blamed the computer problems on a hacker or outside threat.Trash talk and satellite dish:
Today's "Diva du Jour" honors go to SHANIA TWAIN, who is serious about where she stays! TMZ.com got a peek at the country queen's hotel rider, which states that her room feature three bouquets of white roses --not lilies or baby's breath --a minimum of one soy, vegetable or beeswax candle in every room, seven humidifiers and six vegetarian choices on the room service menu just in case she gets a case of the munchies.
To make sure things are in tip-top shape, she even sends one of her assistants to approve the accommodations 24-hours before she checks in. (Lee)Ratings:
AMY SCHUMER's stint on "Saturday Night Live" along with musical guest THE WEEKEND + NICKI MINAJ was off a bit from last week's season opener with MILEY CYRUS --but just a bit; down 13 percent in overall numbers and five percent in the much sought-after 18-49 age group. But, "SNL" was also the top-rated show of the evening.
Next week, former cast member TRACY MORGAN makes his return as host, after that devastating car accident last year. He will be joined by musical guest DEMI LOVATO.Bad luck:
A lady in Florida mistook superglue for eye drops with disastrous results.
KATHERINE GAYDOS says a leaf blower caused debris to fly into her eye, so she yelled for someone to grab eye drops out of her purse. That person handed her the wrong bottle and within seconds, her left eye was glued shut. Gaydos explains, "I felt it burn and I closed my eye and screamed 'Call 911.'" She lived with her eye glued shut for nine days. Eventually, a doctor was able to pry her eyelid open. The next step will be scraping the glue from her cornea.
Doctors say Gaydos should eventually get her sight back. (Still) -
