Razzie Award nominations:
The nominations for this year's Golden Raspberry Awards --honoring the worst in this year's crop of movies-- are out and "Zoolander No. 2" leads all movies with nine Razzie nominations, including Worst Picture, Worst Actor and Worst Director for BEN STILLER, Worst Supporting Actress for KRISTEN WIIG, and Worst Supporting Actor for both WILL FERRELL and OWEN WILSON.
In their yearly announcement (traditionally the day BEFORE the Oscar nominations are announced) the Razzies said the past year had so many bad films, they had to expand the number of nominees from five to six in each of their nine categories. The winners will be announced on Feb 25 --the day before the Oscars are handed out. Besides "Zoolander No. 2" in the Worst Picture category, there's also "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," "Dirty Grandpa," "Gods of Egypt," "Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party," and "Independence Day: Resurgence."Diaper duty:
MEL GIBSON may or may not get an Oscar nomination for directing "Hacksaw Ridge" this morning, but he's got other things on his mind --his ninth child was born Friday morning in Los Angeles. LARS GERARD GIBSON is the first child with his girlfriend of two years, ROSALIND ROSS. In case you're wondering, Mel is now 60 years old.
Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
CHRISETTE MICHELE is fighting back at all the hate she got for singing at President DONALD TRUMP's Liberty Ball last Friday, following his inauguration. Yahoo Celebrity says she released a single yesterday called "No Political Genius" and it's a spoken word piece from her forthcoming album, "Still American." These are some of the lyrics (quote), "Your hateful words won't be my definition or my defining moment/Not my vision or my anger/I won't own it/Nor my prison/Won't condone it/They will be my ammunition to fight the system." Chrisette got a lot of flack from SPIKE LEE who refused to use her empowerment single, "Black Girl Magic" in his upcoming Netflix series, "She's Gotta Have It," and from QUESTLOVE. They both get namechecked in the new single. (Marino)
Good timing award:
A European skydiver dropped his GoPro camera right in the middle of a jump and somehow managed to catch it again.
The unidentified jumper was three-thousand feet over Portugal when he dropped the camera then caught it mid-air using his feet. Slow motion video from the GoPro shows it detach from his helmet before drifting just out of reach. The unidentified skydiver says, "My ninja skills kicked in and caught it with my legs!" The camera was saved and the clip has been posted online. (Still)
