Is it sports?
The perennial question arrives again today with the opening of the 141st Westminster Dog Show at Madison Square Garden in NYC. Is this a sport? Well, the canines train:
--they take a form of PEDs (performing enhancement drugs --Greenies anyone?),
--they have a skills competition (called Masters Agility Competition) and
--this year, they met their mythical adversaries in the arena... CATS were invited on Saturday at the Meet the Breeds event.
Westminster can be seen via live streaming on Fox Sports Go today and tomorrow from 9am-5pm, on National Geographic Wild 2pm-4pm, and on FS1 8pm-10pm. (Lane)Health and Medical Briefs:
Do older men prefer younger women? Not exactly, according to a new study out of Finland. CBS News reports they found that yes, many heterosexual men were, in fact, interested in women substantially younger than they were. And yes, on average, they had a more generous definition of "too young" than women did.
But on the other hand, the men were also attracted to women their own age. And as they aged, their preferences for a sexual partner matured, too. Basically, the researchers determined that the stereotype is oversimplified. That's because neither men nor women based their romantic choices on age alone. (Bartha)Grace Notes from Vinny Marino:
Singer AL JARREAU has died. Less than a week after announcing he had to cancel the rest of his concerts for 2017 and retire from the road, the New York Times says Al died yesterday. He was 76. No cause of death was given. Al didn't really start singing professionally until he was 30. He was mostly known as a jazz singer, but he scored three pop hits in the 1980's: "We're In This Love Together," "Mornin'," and the theme song from the TV show, "Moonlighting." Al sold many many albums, and his live discs are exceptional. On stage, he could move from jazz to R&B to pop easily, and was able to scat with the best of them, especially on DAVE BRUBECK's "Blue Rondo a la Turk." Al also appeared on the comedy series, "SCTV" in a spoof of "The Jazz Singer" where he played an R&B vocalist who wanted to be a cantor. (Marino)
Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
