MStates with the largest Irish-American populations:
There are many more Irish people in the U-S than in Ireland --if you believe 'em all. There's just 4.6 million people in Ireland (and another 1.8 million in Northern Ireland) but In the US today, there are 33.1 million Americans who claim Irish ancestry. So there are more than five and a half times as many Americans with at least partial Irish ancestry as there are people who live in Ireland itself. Irish is the nation’s second most frequently reported ancestry, trailing only those of German ancestry. (source: U-S Census Bureau)
5. Illinois- 1,511,569
4. Florida- 1,645,585
3. Pennsylvania- 1,981,106
2. New York- 2,451,042
1. California- 2,611,449
Quotable: "For folks in California, New York and Pennsylvania, it's like Cinco de Mayo for white people."
The state with the highest percentage of Irish people, though, is Massachusetts, where almost a quarter (24 percent) of the people are descendants of Irish immigrants. That's more than runner-up (and neighboring) New Hampshire (20 percent) and Rhode Island (18 percent). The remaining New England states --Connecticut, Vermont and Maine-- also rank among the top 10 in this category, as does Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Montana. Irish is among the top-five ancestries in every state but two (Hawaii and New Mexico).

About 76 percent of adults may experience some type of hangover after drinking --including fatigue, dehydration, a headache or muscle aches, dizziness, shakiness and rapid heartbeat. If you plan to be among the St. Patty's Day revelers, here's everything you need to know about hangovers and how to beat them.
--Obviously, to prevent a hangover altogether, don't drink, or keep your drinking moderate.
--Dark liquors like bourbon and whiskey contain compounds that can make a hangover worse. Vodka or light beers can make your hangover a little easier to bear.
--Don't drink on an empty stomach. Food helps to slow down the rate at which your body absorbs alcohol.
--Heavy drinking can lead to a loss of some nutrients in the body. That can make a hangover worse. If you have a hangover, try to eat eggs, meat, fish and orange and yellow vegetables to help replace Vitamin A. Proteins like chicken or fish can help replace some B vitamins. Asparagus is rich in zinc and a B vitamin called folate. Animal proteins, nuts, whole grains and beans can help replace zinc. Avocados or bananas can offer a boost of potassium.
--Alcohol can dehydrate you. If you wake up with a hangover... drink lots of water right away. Even better, drink a glass of water in between each drinkof alcohol. It will help minimize your hangover, keep you hydrated and possibly keep you from overdoing it.

Things to avoid when you have a hangover:
--Don't take Tylenol or other products containing acetaminophen. There's a risk for liver damage --especially when combined with all the alcohol still being processed through your body.
--Don't drink away your hangover. The "hair of the dog" won't fix your hangover… it will prolong it. (Bartha)
