Wasted away again in Margaritaville:
Probably best if he was too drunk to ever remember this. A drunk man in Memphis apparently couldn't make it home and decided to stop and take a nap. He found a lovely car with a trunk, climbed up onto CARL WEBB's trunk and dozed off. When Carl and his wife came out to their car from Barbecue Fest, it was dark and his rear sun shade was up, so they didn't see the man. They started the car and drove away, until a Memphis cop pulled them over. The officer said, "Sir, are you aware there's a body on your trunk?" Nothing clicked with Carl so the cop then said, "Mr. I'm not messing with you. There's a body on your trunk." Carl got out and saw the man, who slept through the 14 mile drive. He said he's very thankful for the police, who took the man away. (Myers)
Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
The late CHRIS CORNELL was honored on various stages over the weekend. RollingStone.com says U2 blasted SOUNDGARDEN's "Black Hole Sun" before the band took the stage at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. BONO dedicated "Running To Stand Still" to Chris and said he was (quote), "a lion."
RYAN ADAMS actually performed "Black Hole Sun" during his show in Auckland, New Zealand. And, AEROSMITH did "Dream On" for Chris during their Friday night show in the country of Georgia.
Soundgarden was supposed to perform Friday at the Rock On the Range festival in Ohio. SLIPKNOT's COREY TAYLOR did the TEMPLE OF THE DOG tune, "Hunger Strike" as a tribute to Chris.
FYI: Variety says a private funeral for Chris will be held Friday in Los Angeles, and he'll be buried at the Hollywood Forever Cemetary. There will be a public memorial at some point. (Marino)Everyday heroes:
A first-grader in Japan just became the world's youngest club DJ.
Six-year-old ITSUKI MORITA earned an official Guinness World Record after spinning music at a bar in Osaka, Japan over the weekend. Morita played to a crowd of adults and children for over an hour. In addition to spinning music, he fired t-shirts into the crowd using a shirt-cannon. When asked where he first got the idea to become a disc jockey, the boy said, "I saw people DJing and thought it looks fun." (Still)Lawsuit of the day:
Like your coffee hot? Most people do, but not if it spills on you.
And the folks at Starbucks have been ordered to pay JOANNE MOGAVERO --a 43-year-old Florida woman-- $100-thousand dollars after the lid on a venti-sized Pike Place coffee popped off at a Jacksonville drive-thru window in 2014. Joanne reportedly suffered first- and second-degree burns in the incident when the 190-degree coffee hit her lap.
Her lawsuit claimed the lid was either not properly attached or defective, and the jury agreed, awarding her $85-thousand bucks for pain and suffering, physical impairment, disfigurement, inconvenience and loss of capacity for enjoyment of life --along with $15-grand for her medical bills.
Starbucks says it's considering an appeal.
