Weird science:
A KFC chicken sandwich has been launched into outer space. Really, we swear its true. Mashable.com says the fast food chain launched the sandwich into the stratosphere suspended under a giant space balloon. The spaceflight company World View launched the KFC Zinger Chicken Sandwich to its position 77,000 feet above the surface of the Earth at 9:11 a.m. Eastern on Thursday. A silly video narrated by the current "Colonel Sanders," played by ROB LOWE, honors the "historic" launch.
While the KFC sandwich launch is extremely goofy, it's also important for the space company. This mission marks the first multi-day test of the company's Stratollite system, which makes use of a large balloon that lofts its payload - in this case, the Zinger sandwich - up high above Earth. Unfortunately, the sandwich came back down to Earth after just 17 hours into its four-day mission. The reason: a small leak in the balloon. (Bartha)Health and Medical Briefs:
Those one or two beers a day may be worse for you than you thought.
According to a new survey published by United European Gastroenterology, just two drinks a day can add to your chance of getting esophageal cancer and colorectal cancer. Four drinks a day can increase your chances of pancreatic cancer, stomach and liver cancer. All the cancers are linked to the digestive tract. Colorectal, pancreatic and liver cancer cause almost three million deaths per year and contribute to more than a third of global cancer deaths. Gives a whole new meaning to ...bottoms up! (Myers)Designer Update:
The designer behind BEYONCE's iconic yellow Roberto Cavalli dress in "Lemonade" has unveiled his own collection. On Sunday, Ellesays PETER DUNDAS' collection launched his first collection. It includes one of the looks Beyonce wore to the Grammy's back in February --the red sequined dress she wore to accept her awards. He also designed the gold "mother-goddess" dress she wore for her Grammy's performance. (Bartha)
Bad luck:
There was a huge mess on the Autobahn highway in Austria yesterday (Tuesday).
Emergency workers were called to clear 75-hundred chickens off the road after a truck overturned while transporting the animals. The chickens --many of them dead-- were strewn across the highway during rush hour. Thousands of them were running in all directions, snarling traffic. It took 120 firefighters to clear the animals off the road.Police later said the truck driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. It's unclear if anyone was injured. (Still)
