Off the beaten path:
Sometimes being a man isn'ta privilege. The Handsome Her shop in Melbourne, Australia, has been charging an 18 percent "man tax" to highlight the gender pay gap.
Owner ALEX O'BRIEN, who's female, said, "I do want people to think about it, because we've had this (pay discrepancy) for decades and decades and we're bringing it to the forefront of people's minds. I like that it is making men stop and question their privilege a little bit." Ms O'Brien said she's had mostly positive reaction and some men have even donated extra money on top of their tax and tip. (Myers)Sorry we missed it:
the annual Naked Goddess Swim took place Saturday in the Willamette River in Portland, OR, "where mere mortal women shed their suits and inhibitions to swim as Goddesses in the full moonlight." The organizers recommended "Goddesses should wear a robe and sandals, and bring a floatation device. We also recommend glow stick jewelry to wear, the better to be seen by kayak Gods and Goddesses." Oh, yeah: $30 ...entry fee. (Link goes to their FB page).
On, off and way-off-Broadway:
PANIC AT THE DISCO singer BRENDAN URIE gave his final performance in "Kinky Boots" yesterday. Playbill.com says his 10-week run as Charlie Price in the hit Broadway musical was completely sold out. ANDY KELSO takes over the lead starting Tuesday, with STARK SANDS and BILLY PORTER as Lola back in the cast on September 26th. Those two originals will stick around through January 7th. (Marino)
