The Internet:
A computer virus is infecting millions of users of the world's most popular porn site, Pornhub.
The Cyber-security firm, Proofpoint, says it's uncovered a virus, called Kovter, which has been routinely attacking visitors for more than a year. After visiting the site, users would get a tab which would pop up saying there was a "critical update" for whichever web browser the viewer was using. If the user clicked the update button, the virus would be downloaded to the computer, where it would then track users' personal information and browsing habits.
FYI: Pornhub is the most popular porn website with an estimated 80 million daily visitors, and the 20th-most-popular website overall in the United States.Fast Food:
Sick of having to pick from chicken, beef or fish when you pull in your local drive-thru?
The fine folks at Arby's are giving fast food a serious once-over with their brand-new venison sandwich! The deer meat delight will be available for one day only this Saturday in all 3,300 locations across the country. The taste sensation will feature grass-fed, free-range meat from New Zealand, crispy onions and berry sauce.
A few more wild game fans in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana will also be able to enjoy an elk meat sandwich at just one location in each state on the same day. (Lee)Hurricane Maria recovery:
Google's parent company plans to use balloons to help restore Puerto Rico's damaged telephone network.Eighty-three percent of cell sites on the island remain out of service, but Alphabet --which is Google's parent company-- plans to deploy high-altitude balloons to temporarily establish a communication network. Seeker.comsays the company obtained authorization from the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to deploy the devices --developed from 2013 as part of a project known as "Loon."
The Loon project is part of a series of futuristic projects out of Alphabet's "X" laboratory that was originally created to provide internet coverage in under-developed rural areas. The balloons are sent 12 miles above the Earth's surface, where they can remain autonomously for over 100 days. They are made from a polyethylene canvas the size of a tennis court. Initially designed to drift, the balloons are now equipped with navigation systems, powered by solar panels, which keep them in a specific area. The announcement comes after electric carmaker Tesla said it could help restore electricity to Puerto Rico using solar panels and batteries. (Bartha)Meanwhile, JENNIFER LOPEZ and MARC ANTHONY head up the cast of a concert fund-raiser to raise money to aid the people who've been devastated by the recent natural disasters.
