Stalking the catwalk:
The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in China is turning into a disaster! KATY PERRY has been banned from the country for her scheduled performance. And top model GIGI HADID has dropped out of walking in the holiday lingerie spectacular at the last minute, after at least four other models were denied visas by the Chinese government this week. The show is scheduled for Tuesday in Shanghai, and will air on TV later this month.
The New York Post's "Page Six" gossip column reports that Katy was initially issued a visa for the show, then had it yanked after the government caught wind of a controversial incident during Katy's performance in Taiwan in 2015. Katy waved a Taiwanese flag during the concert and wore bright, glittery dress with sunflowers on it to support Taiwanese independence from China. The sunflower had been adopted the year before by anti-China protesters.
Peoplesays GIGI HADID just dropped out yesterday after being scheduled to appear with sister BELLA HADID. Victoria's Secret had no comment on why Gigi was leaving the show. But the model has been the target of protests in China after a Snapchat video she posted earlier this year re-emerged on the Chinese social media service Weibo, which appears to show Gigi mocking Asian facial features.
If Victoria's Secret has any models and performers left by Tuesday, the production will air on November 28th on CBS. (Bartha)Good luck:
A Virginia man credits his wife's dreams for his lottery win.
FREDERICK KNOX of Hampton won $100-thousand dollars in the Virginia Lottery's Cash Five gameusing the numbers his wife saw in a dream. Knox says he rarely plays the game, but decided to buy a ticket after his wife saw the numbers 1-8-14-20-31 in her dream.
Fredsays his wife "dumbfounded" when all five numbers came up. Knox explains, "She just kept looking at the ticket, and she didn't believe it." The couple plans to pay off their bills with the winnings. (Still)Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
STEVE MARTIN scored a number 17 hit in 1978 with "King Tut." That song is now in the crosshairs of a student demonstration. The Washington Examiner says the video of a live performance of the tune from "Saturday Night Live" was shown in a humaities class at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. An on-campus group called Reedies Againt Racism says "King Tut" is just as bad as using the "N" word and now demands that the humanities class be optional instead of required.
One student said (quote), "The gold face of the saxophone dancer leaving its tomb is an exhibition of blackface." That would be "BLUE" LOU MARINI who was also in the "Blues Brothers" band and movie. The Reedies have also issued a list of demands to the administration of the school, including a day off on September 26th of 2018, which is the one-year anniversary of the video being shown in class.
The "King Tut" song and skit was actually about the commercialism around the Treasures of Tutankhamun exhibit that toured the worls from 1976 through 1979. (Marino)
