Watercooler:
Burger King has taken back an apologized for the offer they had earlier this week--on their Twitter account they offered a lifetime supply of Whoppers to Russian women who got pregnant by World Cup soccer players.
After having the proposition labeled "sexist and demeaning," Burger King took it all back, saying "We're sorry about the offensive promotion."Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
MIKE NESMITHof THE MONKEESis not feeling well. TMZ.comfirst reported that he collapsed yesterday during the soundcheck for his concert last night with MICKY DOLENZat the Keswick Theaterin Glenside, Pennsylvania. Later came word that Mike didn't collapse, but he was ill before he got to the venue. Mike was taken to the hospital. It's nothing serious, but Mike was told to rest so the last four dates on "The Monkees Present: The Mike & Micky Show" are off. That includes shows in New York and New Jersey. (Marino)
Animal Stories:
They may not be native --but can still cause accidents.
Two people in Montana were hurt when the car they were in had to swerve to avoid a kangaroo in the road.Yes, you heard that right, a kangaroo.
Believe it or not, there is a kangaroo farm near Dotson and police tried to capture the animal but weren't able to since it got too dark. (Myers)Diseases and Dat Boid Flu:
There's new evidence that viruses that lay dormant in our bodies for most of our lives may somehow play a role in Alzheimer's. CBSsays a team led by researchers at New York's Mount Sinai Health Systemfound that certain viruses --including two extremely common herpes viruses-- affect the behavior of genes involved in Alzheimer's. The idea is that infections from earlier in life might somehow set the stage for Alzheimer's decades later.
The study also fits with mounting evidence that how aggressively the brain's immune system defends itself against viruses or other germs may be riskier than an actual infection. (Bartha)
