Fast food news: Look for a new MAC & CHEESE side dish at CHICK-FIL-A, which they claim is baked up fresh in each restaurant every day. It's a big deal because Chick-fil-A rarely adds stuff to their menu. The Mac & Cheese includes cheddar, parmesan and Romano cheeses and you can get it as a small or medium side along with your order. In case you were wondering, the small is 260 calories and has 720 mg of sodium; the medium has 440 calories and 1200 mg of sodium.
CBS News reports Starbucks' pumpkin spice latte will be back on its menu earlier than ever this year --starting just two weeks from today, Tue, Aug 27 (a day earlier than last year). Apparently, Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts are in a pumpkin spice war, because last year, Dunkin' released their drink the day before Starbucks, just to toss it in their faces.
And in case you were wondering, it doesn't stop there --Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Creamer will be available in grocery stores this fall as well.Taco Bell opened up a brand-new pop-up hotel in Palm Springs, but unfortunately it was only open for five days (and closed yesterday morning). There was a salon where you could get a "Cinnabon Delights" hair style, and a Freeze Lounge where you could get frozen Baja Blasts; the hotel's Baja Bar featured jalapeño popcorn chicken served with cilantro ranch dressing... along with the usual drinks. Room service included a build-your-own breakfast taco spread with eggs, bacon, potatoes, cheese, salsa, and tortillas, plus a bowl of those Cinnabon Delights as well.
And, if you haven't heard, for you vodka lovers there's a new brand, made in Russia called (wait for it): Atomik vodka.
The reason for the name is pretty obvious --it's distilled from grains grown in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone --yeah, the place where that nuclear power plant reactor melted down-- as part of an experiment to determine how much radiation is transferred from the soil to crops. And in case you were wondering whether the glass will cause a geiger counter to click as it's passed by, there's apparently a bit of strontium-90 in the grain, but it's removed during the distilling process. The water they use also reportedly comes from a deep, contamination-free local groundwater aquifer. The folks behind the liquor say they want to produce it in mass quantities now and donate 75-percent of the proceeds to charities in the Exclusion Zone. -
