Today's the day Sir LUCIAN GRAINGE, the Chairman and CEO of the Universal Music Group, is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 11:30 a.m. (Pacific). SHAWN MENDES and LIONEL RICHIE will be on hand to help unveil the star.
Some of the well-known stars Sir Lucian has signed include ABBA, LADY GAGA, ELTON JOHN, JAY Z, QUEEN, RIHANNA, The ROLLING STONES, SAM SMITH, TAYLOR SWIFT, U2, AMY WINEHOUSE and many others.Don't think you'll be able to get away with calling your pet a service animal to take it along on an airplane for much longer.
"The days of Noah's Ark in the air are hopefully coming to an end," SARA NELSON, the president of the Flight Attendants-CWA said.
That's because the US Department of Transportation is working on new rules that would only allow specially trained dogs to fly under the "service animal" restrictions.
That will be a problem for some folks, who've taken animals including peacocks, miniature horses, turkeys, cats, snakes, other reptiles, rabbits, ferrets, rodents, pigs, and spiders on board planes.
If it's passed, the new regulations will only approve service animals to be a "dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a person with a disability."Broadway news: Look for that 1984 movie, "The Karate Kid," to be made into a Broadway musical. Of course, there was no singing from the kids at the Cobra Kai dojo, and RALPH MACCIO is a bit too old to star in the film (and PAT MORITA passed away in 2005!). But you can bet they'll still roll it out.
Movie news: Variety reports author James Patterson's novel character, Alex Cross, could soon have his own Amazon series. Patterson has written 29 books about the character, who's a detective, FBI agent, and psychologist in Washington D.C.
Look for WHOOPI GOLDBERG on an upcoming episode of CBS All Access' "Star Trek: Picard." Of course, Whoopi was on the previous series series "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and the films "Star Trek Generations" and "Star Trek: Nemesis" as Guinan, a bartender in the Ten-Forward lounge aboard the starship USS Enterprise-D.
Yesterday, on "The View," PATRICK STEWART invited her to show up as the character on the second season of "Picard" --and she very quickly and gladly accepted.
"'Star Trek' was one of the great experiences from the beginning to the end," she said, flashing an enormous grin. "I had the best, best, best time. Best time ever!"
