On vacation for the past week in Lithuania, where I saw memorials to (believe it or not) Frank Zappa and John Lennon among other things... check my Facebook page for the pix...
Traveling these days is different. Although there's but one case of Coronavirus in the entire country where I was staying (and not in any town near us) everybody is nevertheless cleaning EVERYTHING and ALL THE TIME. While you didn't see many masks on the streets (although there were a few) or on board jets, it was much more obvious that people were taking wipes and cleaning the armrests on their seats, the tray tables, and anything that might be touched on the way to other people's seats. While there were no shortages of wipes or aerosol cleaners in stores, people were buying them.
Meanwhile, the Coronavirus terror continues to ramp up.
The company that makes Purell has "dramatically increased production" as the demand for hand sanitizer goes up accordingly across the country. And supermarkets have seen demand for sanitary wipes, hand soaps, disinfectant wipes and sprays and other products rocket up as well. And NY Gov ANDREW CUOMO told reporters Monday the state is going to bottle its own hand sanitizer, using inmates to produce 100-thousand gallons a week.
And the Coronavirus scare has extended to concerts being cancelled, TV show audiences getting the boot and films being delayed. Last week the new James Bond film, "No Time To Die," was moved from April to November and yesterday it was announced that "Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway," will be pushed back from the end of this month to August. That's because of fears that movie theatres will all be closed here in the US. They've been closed in China since January and all cinemas in Italy were ordered to close over the weekend.
And then there's other public events. The folks who run San Diego's Comic-Con coming in July and next month’s WonderCon at the Anaheim Convention Center in California say while both are still scheduled, they have reserved the right to keep an eye on the Coronavirus situation and perhaps either reschedule or cancel depending on events.
