Coronavirus update 1: They're coming ba-a-a-ck! The game shows "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!," which were sidelined into shutting down because of the coronavirus --and needed more social distancing between their contestants-- are heading back to the studio to tape more episodes.
Coronavirus update 2: STARBUCKS sez they'll be shutting down more than 400 locations as they restructure during the pandemic. And more Starbucks locations will have curbside pick-up, drive-thrus and mobile-only pick-ups as well. The company also announced yesterday that their famous Pumpkin Spice Latte is coming back shortly.
Coronavirus update 3: Meanwhile, the folks at J.C. Penney said yesterday they are looking to sell the business in order to avoid liquidation of the entire chain. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in mid-May with 846 stores and 85-thousand employees then.
Coronavirus update 4: Texas Republican congressman LOUIE GOHMERT (GO-Mert) who was seen frequently removing his mask during a nearly five-hour hearing with Attorney General WILLIAM BARR on Tuesday, and is often seen around the Capitol without a mask, has now tested positive for coronavirus. His response: "I can't help but wonder if by keeping a mask on and keeping it in place, I might have put some germs - some virus - on to the mask and breathed it in." He was scheduled to fly with PRESIDENT TRUMP to Texas yesterday, but had to pass on the trip.
We may have a simple blood test to diagnose Alzheimer's disease. A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association reports that a blood test to detect the tau protein, one of the signs of Alzheimer's, can diagnose the early signs of the disease and would also differentiate between different types of cognitive dementia --and may be able to detect brain changes 20 years before dementia symptoms occur. Currently, only brain scans and spinal taps are used to determine whether somebody might be at risk.
Bloomberg News says Virgin Galactic Holdings has already sold 600 tickets for its space flight program, which normally start at $250-thousand dollars each. However, the company now says they want to make the trips "more affordable" to people. Good luck with that one.
Best story of the day: The guys from the group KORN have put out a cover version of CHARLIE DANIELS' classic, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." The band announced on its website that the song's release is in Daniels' honor --appropriate since Charlie passed away a couple of weeks ago (on July 6th). The song features artist YELAWOLF and can be purchased through their website for $2 bucks. All the proceeds will be donated to a nonprofit organization called "Awakening Youth," which "empowers young people who have lost regular interaction with a parent to life events such as divorce, addiction, death and more," according to the group. “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” was No. 1 on the country charts in 1979 and No. 3 on the pop charts that year as well.
