Coronavirus sidebar: As COVID-19 cases spread and businesses shut down or get rid of people to trim budgets, there are lots of Americans on the unemployment lines. More than 28 million people --that would be around one in five American workers-- were collecting benefits in the week ending July 25th and another 963-thousand people filed new claims for unemployment as well. But that's good, since the number of people filing for the first time dipped below a million for the first time since the beginning of the Pandemic in March.
Didja love the movie, “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”??? Good news --Variety reports SEAN PENN will be hosting a table read of the film with stars including JENNIFER ANISTON, SHIA LABEOUF, MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY, JULIA ROBERTS, DANE COOK, MORGAN FREEMAN, HENRY GOLDING and more all taking parts in the film. You'll be able to see it Thursday (August 20) at 9 pm (Eastern) on Facebook Live and TikTok. PS: Sean will *not* be reading the part of his character, Jeff Spicoli --and no word on what roles the other stars will take. The event will be used to raise funds for both the emergency relief nonprofit CORE (which Sean co-founded) and the REFORM Alliance.
Rolling Stone reports DOLLY PARTON is putting out her first Christmas album in 30 years --with a few guests helping her with songs. Stars doing duets with Dolly include MICHAEL BUBLÉ, WILLIE NELSON, MILEY CYRUS, JIMMY FALLON, BILLY RAY CYRUS as well as Dolly's brother, RANDY PARTON. “A Holly Dolly Christmas” will be out Friday, October 2nd.
Fast food news: Dunkin’ Donuts (now just Dunkin') classic Pumpkin Spice Latte and their Fall Menu will be in stores beginning next Wednesday, August 19.
Tube news: the Hallmark Channel has picked up a new movie about its first-ever same-sex couple, who will be featured in "Wedding Every Weekend," premiering tonight (Friday, August 14th). The plot is about two single friends who agree to attend four weddings over the course of four weeks together as "wedding buddies" to avoid being set up with other single attendees. One of the weddings is with two female brides --instead of a bride and groom-- who take their vows at the altar. However, the movie does not show the two women kissing after the ceremony.
