TV Talk: It probably shouldn’t come as any surprise that the folks at “Jeopardy” have selected KEN JENNINGS to be the first of a series of interim guest hosts when the trivia game show returns to production on Monday, Nov. 30. Ken, of course, was the winner of the “Jeopardy! Greatest of All Time” tournament,” and his first week of guest-hosted episodes will air the week of Jan. 11, 2021. They’re also expected to hire other guest hosts until the search for a permanent replacement is over. ALEX TREBECK’s final week of episodes will air the week of Jan. 4, 2021 “in order to give his millions of fans a chance to see his final appearances.” But before that, they’re going to air 10 of his best episodes the weeks of Dec. 21 and Dec. 28, 2020.
Ratings: not such good news for the 2020 American Music Awards, which got only a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49 and around 3.8 million total viewers. That’s a 50% rating decline and a 43% loss audience dip. Should we blame the coronavirus?
Plugola: Speaking of that, as you know, the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is going to air on TV (NBC & Telemundo Thursday morning from 9 am-noon) but just segments which won’t be seen on the streets of New York City. Except that for the 20th consecutive year, the Pikachu Balloon is going to be there, and floating among the skyscrapers accompanied by “a troupe of dancing Pikachu [that] will deliver an electrifying performance.” Yeah, OK.
Fast Food news: The folks at Krispy Kreme have put together a new Holiday Collection featuring two new festive doughnuts —the new Festive Tree Doughnut and new Present Doughnut along with the fan-favorite Santa Belly Doughnut. Get ‘em from Nov 27 thru Christmas Eve.
Finally, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that General Motors has decided to recall about 6 million of their pickup trucks and SUVs to replace their Takata air bag inflators. That also includes various Cadillac Escalades, Chevy Silverados, Suburbans and Tahoes, along with GMC Sierras and Yukons. Contact your dealer to make sure yours is involved. About 100 million inflators have been recalled worldwide.
