See ya: The folks at Anheuser-Busch have apparently decided to cancel commercials from Budweiser --The King of Beers-- in their Super Bowl commercial buy. It's the first time in almost 40 years you won't see Bud --although other brands have also done the same thing, namely Coca-Cola and Pepsi. The good news is that Budweiser is putting the big bucks from the commercial to the Ad Council, which is producing commercials to help raise awareness of the benefits of getting the coronavirus vaccine. And other than cutting Budweiser ads, Anheuser-Busch is still running several commercials for Bud Light and some of its other products.
While we're on the subject, the performers for the Super Bowl have been announced. Look for MILEY CYRUS to headline the NFL TikTok Tailgate pregame show. Two-time Grammy-winner H.E.R. do "America the Beautiful." And country singer ERIC CHURCH and songwriter JAZMINE SULLIVAN will perform the "Star-Spangled Banner" As far as halftime, it'll be a solo event with THE WEEKND.
Some sucky news for chocolate fans: CBS News reports GODIVA is closing or selling all of its 128 brick-and-mortar stores in North America. What it's attempting to do is get you to order its products online instead. The company's US stores have been having sales problems because of the pandemic.
And an ethical move from Target --which has dumped coconut milk made by the Thai company Chaokoh from its store shelves. The reason? PETA --The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals-- have claimed they did an investigation which found the drink is made in Thailand by using forced monkey labor. The animals are apparently chained together and used to pick coconuts all day with chains around their necks. Target is the latest chain to quit selling the product, joining more than 26,000 stores, including Wegmans, Costco, Food Lion and Stop & Shop.
