International Women's Day is this Monday, March 8th, and the folks at Mattel have released another collectible Barbie doll in their Inspiring Women line. So far their "Inspiring Women" Barbies have included American poet MAYA ANGELOU, ELLA FITZGERALD, FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE, SUSAN B. ANTHONY, BILLIE JEAN KING, ROSA PARKS and SALLY RIDE. The latest addition will be modeled after former first lady ELEANOR ROOSEVELT, the wife of President FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT, who served from 1933-45.
That two-hour interview with OPRAH WINFREY, getting up close and personal with PRINCE HARRY and wife MEGHAN MARKLE airs Sunday on CBS, and is already making headlines. On one of the teasers for the interview, Meghan claims the Palace had an “active role” in “perpetuating falsehoods” about her and her husband, and that “there’s a lot that’s been lost already” in regards to her relationship with the royal family.
Iditarod XLIX begins Saturday, March 6th. The mushers will be taking the Southern Route (as they do in odd years) from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska --a total of 998 miles. So far there are 47 mushers, both male and female (13), and most of them from the US, although there are also mushers from Denmark, Norway and three from Canada. Look for GLADYS KNIGHT doing the national anthem at this Sunday's NBA All-Star Game in Atlanta. ALESSIA CARA will also sing the Canadian national anthem remotely from Toronto. There'll also be marching bands, step teams, glee clubs and choirs as well. It all starts at 8 pm (Eastern) before the tipoff on TNT.
Fans of SpongeBob SquarePants will be excited to find out that Nickelodeon will be spinning off a new 13 episode animated series about SpongeBob’s best friend, Patrick Star. Deadline reports the series will start this summer on Nickelodeon. Another SpongeBob spin-off, "Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years," debuted yesterday on the Paramount-Plus streaming network, which used to be CBS All Access.
Fast food: Just in time for the summer, M&M’s are putting out two new flavor varieties for their Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches: Mint and Classic. The Mint ones will (of course) have mint-flavored ice cream sandwiched between two chocolate cookies with Milk Chocolate M&M’s Minis. The Classic will have regular vanilla ice cream between two chocolate cookies with Milk Chocolate M&M’s Minis baked in.
And while we're on the snack page, Dunkin’ Donuts is releasing bags of Iced Coffee Flavored Jelly Beans just in time to fill those Easter baskets. The jelly beans include new flavors "inspired by" various Dunkin' coffees, including French Vanilla, Caramel Latte, Butter Pecan, Toasted Coconut, and Hazelnut.
