You may have seen footage of that woman carrying a sign that caused a big pile-up Saturday during the first stage of the Tour de France. The woman had a big sign saying "Go Granny and Grandad" in French and apparently didn't see or hear the peloton coming. The sign hit a rider, who fell over, causing the riders in back of him to also topple into the pile-up. Now French cops say they are trying to identify the woman.
Hot stuff: Get out the DONNA SUMMER record, and crank up the air conditioning, because the Northwest has had a weekend to remember --which some scientists say could be a "once in a thousand years" event. The heatwave caused temperatures in...
Seattle: 103
Portland: 107
Spokane: 108
Yakima: 110
Medford, OR: 115
...and up in Canada, they expect to reach the country's all-time highest temperature. Experts say the temperatures are caused by the burning of fossil fuels, and by 2100, temperatures are expected to be 7 to 10 degrees above what they should be.
Congrats to the late ALEX TREBEK, who won a posthumous Daytime Emmy Award for his hosting of "Jeopardy!" and the show won "best game show" as well. Alex's son and daughter, MATT and EMILY, accepted the trophy from the set of the show. KELLY CLARKSON also picked up a pair of trophies for her talk show as well.
Weekend box office: The new “F9” movie picked up $70 million over the weekend, meaning the pandemic is probably over at movie theatres --provided film companies can being producing product again. The $70 million was the biggest take since “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” back in December of 2019.
Black lives matter: It was 70 years ago today that the "Amos & Andy Show" debuted on CBS (1951). It was the first TV series with an all-black cast.
Not gonna happen: The BBC reports RINGO STARR has dropped his lawsuit against the makers of a sex toy called... (wait for it)... a "Ring O." Of course, he felt the product's name was too similar to his own, and his reputation would be damaged if it was registered as a trademark with US. But he's settled his complaint after reaching an agreement with the manufacturers, who have reportedly promised to "avoid any activity likely to lead to confusion" between their product and Mr. Starr. The agreement also specifies that the companies can only use the name for adult sex aids and desensitising sprays, and must have a space between the "Ring" and the "O".
Yes, there's a new, MGM movie coming out called “Pussy Island.” Hollywood trades say NAOMI ACKIE will star in the film opposite CHANNING TATUM, with ZOË KRAVITZ in the director's chair for the first time in her career. No word on the plot other than Naomi playing a Los Angeles cocktail waitress who wants to land Channing's character --a hot-shot philanthropist and tech mogul.
