Fast food: Looks like EMINEM has a part ownership in a new Detroit restaurant. The place, called "Mom's Spaghetti," takes its name from his song, "Lose Yourself." (The line: "His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy / There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti ...etc"). The restaurant, which officially opened up Wednesday, has been a pop-up shop for the past four years, and showed up at a bunch of Eminem's festival appearances as well as places food trucks might show up at. Now it's inside a real, brick-and-mortar building --but not a big one. Service is "limited to eight Stans" at a time and there's also a memorabilia store called "The Trailer" (like in "8 Mile"). As far as the spaghetti, you can get it with meatballs or vegan "rabbit balls" --or in sandwiches. Eminem himself made a surprise appearance for the grand opening, serving the first 10 fans in line with food and posing for selfies.
COVID update: Problems for the Broadway musical, "Aladdin," which had to close again after just one performance since "Re-opening Night" thanks to positive COVID tests within the cast and crew. Now, people with tickets will get refunds and the show will be back --but nobody knows when at this point.
Passing: Sad to report that the leader of COMMANDER CODY AND THE LOST PLANET AIRMEN has died. He passed away Sunday from esophageal cancer at his home in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. He was 77. Commander Cody's real name was GEORGE FRAYNE. He began entertaining people in the early 1960s at the University of Michigan with another student, JOHN TICHY, who played the guitar. By the late 60s, there were eight members of the group and some of their biggest hits included “Hot Rod Lincoln” and “Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (That Cigarette).”
Money-money-money #1: Dollar Tree will no longer be selling just merchandise worth a dollar. The company said Tuesday it'll be adding $1.25 and $1.50 items at some stores in part because of inflationary pressures and rising freight and labor costs. Dollar Tree was the last big dollar store chain to stick to a $1 price cap for its merchandise.
Money-money-money #2: If you haven't heard, the Powerball jackpot will be up to $620 million for Saturday night’s drawing. It’s one of the top 10 largest jackpots in U.S. lottery history. If you win, the cash value would be $446 million.
Money-money-money #3 (and you'll see why in a second): The folks putting out AIR JORDAN sneakers are about to release a shoe just for women next month. The Air Jordan 5 Women's 'Bluebird' is MICHAEL JORDAN’s fifth basketball shoe released under his name. The 'Bluebird' name relates to its color --a light blue color scheme mostly on the premium suede upper part of the shoes. It'll be out October 7th at select Jordan Brand retailers. The cost: $190 bucks.
