See ya: Walmart has decided to bag sales of cigarettes in stores in California, Florida, Arkansas, New Mexico and others. The company said yesterday the decisions about dropping cigarette sales will be made on a store-by-store basis in each market. It's not the only chain to drop cigarette sales --Target ended cigarette sales back in 1996.
In sick bay: Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who said yesterday he's contracted Covid again. It's his second bout with the disease, the first being in November 2020.
The Blue Origin space flight is scheduled to launch this morning (Tuesday) at 8:30 am (Central time) from the launch pad near Van Horn, TX. As you remember, Pete Davidson decided not to be aboard; his seat was given to longtime company employee Gary Lai, the chief architect of the very rocket he'll fly on. The other people on the 10-minute flight into space and back:
--Marty Allen, former chief executive of a party supply store and a closet design company.
--Jim Kitchen, an entrepreneur and faculty member of the University of North Carolina's Business School.
--George Nield, the president and founder of Commercial Space Technologies, and a previous employee of the FAA
. --Sharon Hagle and her husband, Marc Hagle. She's the founder of the non-profit SpaceKids Global, which encourages students --especially young girls-- to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. Her hub is the CEO of a residential and commercial property development firm.
A 50-to-60 car pileup after a heavy snow squall on Pennsylvania's Interstate 81 yesterday afternoon. Police said at least three tractor trailers caught fire during the pileup and three people were killed and another 20 injured as the crashes continued.
Deadline reports Amazon has picked up a series about a bunch of glamorous women living at the Barbizon Hotel in post World War 2 New York City. The show, called "Backwards in Heels," is being produced by Jennifer Lopez and her company.
FYI: The Barbizon was a 23-story females-only hotel back in the day which housed a bunch famous women including Lauren Becall, Betty Buckley, Joan Crawford, Rita Hayworth and Grace Kelly.
