Get a Life, Dep't:
In its latest gasp for attention, the PETA people want the folks in Punxsutawney, PA, to use an animatronic groundhog on Feb 02.
In a letter to organizers of the annual festival, they say exposing Punxsutawney Phil to the crowds and noise is cruelty to animals. They say groundhogs, which are normally shy and spend much of their time in burrows, "become stressed when they are exposed to large, screaming crowds; flashing lights from perhaps hundreds of cameras; and human handling."
Organizers for the festival said their groundhogs get "treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania" and that PETA is just looking for publicity.
Editor's note: Idiots. A robot can't see its own shadow! --And don't get me started on the senseless slaughter of millions of pumpkins for Halloween. (Maiman)Crooks too stupid to live:
A car thief on trial for stealing a Porsche was re-arrested when cops learned he drove a stolen Lexus to court.
The Marin Independent Journal reports 37-year-old TONY VAN was in the courtroom to hear a verdict on charges he stole a 125-thousand dollar Porsche. Meanwhile, he had left seven small puppies in his car outside.
While Tony was in court, the dogs escaped and started running loose in the parking lot. As police were rounding the animals up --they noticed the vehicle the dogs escaped from was stolen.
When Tony came out, officers arrested him again. Now he's accused of receiving a stolen vehicle, animal cruelty and two other charges. (Still)Casting call:
Mad Max, the 'Road Warrior' role originated by MEL GIBSON, is coming back!
The Hollywood Reporter says CHARLIZE THERON and TOM HARDY have signed to star in the flick, called "Fury Road," which will be filmed in Australia this summer. The movie will take place shortly after the first "Mad Max," which means the Max character will still be a young man.
Trivia: What was Mad Max's whole name? Ans: Max Rockatansky.Concert news:
AEROSMITH frontman STEVEN TYLER serenaded customers at a Home Depot in Rancho Mirage, California, over the weekend. TMZ.com says he grabbed a mic connected to the store's P.A. system and started singing "Dude Looks Like A Lady" and "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" a cappella. Steven then took a few hits of helium and continued the surprise concert in a high-pitched voice. He even stuck around to sign autographs.
A week ago, Steven was at a bar on karaoke night and though he told the staff he would not get up and sing, he finally grabbed the mic and did "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" after two other guys got booed off the stage trying to get through the song. (Marino)Going to the dogs:
