Sucking the life out of the wire services:
The California attorney general substantiated rumors that COREY HAIM was nursing a rampant drug addiction in the days leading up to his death last month. People magazine reports the former teen heart throb scored hundreds of prescription drugs from seven different doctors and even hit up emergency rooms and urgent health care clinics to score a fix.
Apparently he was quite a charmer --Corey managed to score 149 tablets of Vicodin, 195 Valium pills, 15 Xanax tablets and 194 Soma pills in a mere 32 days. (Lee)Bottom feeding:
Most guys wouldn't want to spend a single day in JON GOSSELIN's shoes, but one dude actually spends his life impersonating the Octo-Dad. Insiders tell RadarOnline.com that a wannabe is lurking around Atlantic City, getting girls' digits and stalking them. Apparently his MO is to tell young ladies that he may have eight kids but a lot of money --and love-- to give. Apparently things have gotten so serious the police are being called in to find out the identity of the mystery Jon. (Lee)
SNOOKI a mom? Star magazine reports that the producers of "Jersey Shore" have told Snooki and costar J-WOWW to feel free to get pregnant to turn up the drama on the show. Rumor is they're even offering the girls a BIG incentive to do it.
Are internships illegal?:
People trying to get their foot in the door in a competitive field during a bad economy need all the help they can get. For college students, that often means accepting unpaid internships.
But several states are cracking down, saying companies are taking advantage of the practice to flout minimum-wage laws. Interns are unlikely to speak out for fear of retribution, but the Labor Department is launching an effort to teach students, companies, and schools what is allowed.
Bottom line: It's extremely unlikely that an internship with a for-profit employer can be legally unpaid.
Technically, an intern can be unpaid only if he or she doesn't displace a paid worker and the employer doesn't directly benefit from what the intern does on the job. And while no one is saying that the intern can't be asked to make photocopies, if menial work makes up the majority of an internship at a for-profit company, then it's illegal, even if a student is receiving college credit for the work. FOREST WHITAKER appears on tonight's edition of "Criminal Minds." The episode is intended as a possible spinoff of the show, with the crew heading to San Francisco to track a killer, where they meet another team, headed up by Forest & Co.
JOHN EDWARDS' former mistress, RIELLE HUNTER, is all set to go on the OPRAH WINFREY show next month. The The National Enquirer supermarket tabloid reports says the interview will take place in Hunter's home in Charlotte, NC, and that Rielle was the subject of a bidding war between Oprah, BARBARA WALTERS and DIANE SAWYER. It'll be Rielle's first-ever interview.
She has a two-year old daughter fathered by Edwards, who mutually separated from his wife, Elizabeth, this past January.Chocolate, Caffeine, Alcohol:
A study by the London School of Economics found that girls with higher test scores and college degrees are more likely than their less-highly-educated counterparts to become problem drinkers.
Researchers tracked the lives of thousands of 39-year-old women and men, all born in the U-K during the same week in 1970.
Bottom line: "The more educated women are, the more likely they are to drink alcohol on most days and to report having problems due to their drinking patterns."
