Married:
ALANIS MORRISETTE seems to have grown out of her bitter period. The sensitive singer is now Mrs. MARIO TREADWAY. Peoplemagazine reports she tied the knot with the rapper --whose stage name is "Souleye"-- on May 22nd during an intimate ceremony at the Los Angeles home. Rumors have been swirling that Alanis isn't just a new bride --but may be getting ready for a trip to the maternity ward, too! (Lee)
2010 Midterms:
Eleven states are holding primary contests today and the anti-incumbency story line is part of the drama as political newcomers look to unseat long-established candidates. (Pacelli)
BP Oil Spill - Day 50:
More frustration over the Gulf Coast spill.
Congressman ED MARKEY of Massachusetts has introduced a new bill that would require oil companies to fund research and development of safety features so future spills aren't nearly so bad.
A new ABC News / Washington Post poll shows just how angry Americans are.
--More than two to one support the pursuit of criminal charges against those responsible
--73 percent call it a major environmental disaster
--Eight in 10 criticize the way BP is handling it and the government's own response is rated worse than it was in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina: 69 percent rate the government response negatively compared to 62 percent for Katrina (Maiman)Sheen case delayed:
Back to the drawing board for CHARLIE SHEEN, as his assault case was postponed until July yesterday.
That's going to throw a monkey wrench into the production schedule for "Two and a Half Men," since under the terms of his plea bargain, Charlie --now the highest-paid man on TV-- would have been able to serve his 30 days in jail and then go back to work on the TV series in early August.
But the chief prosecutor told the judge that both sides had been unable to reach an agreement, so now everything has been pushed back until July 12.
Recap: As you probably know, after downing a few drinks on Christmas Day of 2009, Charlie pulled a knife and threatened to have his wife, BROOKE MUELLER, killed. He could have gotten up to three years behind bars if he had been convicted on all the offenses. But with the plea bargain, he would likely have gone into jail yesterday, served 17 days (with good behavior) and be out in late June.Broadcast, cable and video news:
"Bourne Identity" co-star JULIA STILES will be joining the cast of Showtime's "Dexter" for the upcoming fifth season of the show. The Hollywood Reporter says she'll play "a mysterious young woman who forms a unique relationship with Dexter (played by MICHAEL C HALL) in the wake of the death of his wife."
MONICA will sing the national anthem tonight before Game 3 of the NBA Finals in Boston. The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics are tied at one game apiece. Monica's latest CD, "Still Standing," was released in March. (Marino)
The Reel Deal:
Hollywood trades say there's so much buzz over the upcoming TOM CRUISE-CAMERON DIAZ film, "Knight and Day," that Twentieth Century Fox has decided to release the film two days early, on Wed Jun 23. The only other movie opening that weekend is the ADAM SANDLER-KEVIN JAMES-CHRIS ROCK comedy, "Grown Ups," which should give "Knight and Day" a big start on the weekend... and a week before the next "Twilight" film, "Eclipse," hits theatres (on Jun 30).
