The Internet:
Ever change the security settings on your work computer so you can get on Facebook or a social networking site? You're not alone. The Cisco 2010 Midyear Security Report includes the results of a survey of employees from around the world.
Fully 50% of the employees surveyed by Cisco said they ignored corporate policies which ban social media in the workplace, and log into social network sites with their work computers at least once a week. Over one quarter of the employees surveyed said they had changed the security settings on their work computers so they can carry on their social media activities unhindered. (Kaye)On, off and way-off Broadway:
Fans of the porn flick "Deep Throat," which starred LINDA LOVELACE and HARRY REEMS, will no doubt be thrilled to find out there's a new, off-Broadway show about the making of the 1972 film.
Daily Variety magazine reports "The Deep Throat Sex Scandal," will start previews Sep 17 and open Oct 10 opening at the 45 Bleecker Street Theater. DAVID BERTOLINO, who created the New England theme park, Spookyworld, wrote the play, with porn writer and director JERRY DOUGLAS (who gave the world the films "Honorable Discharge," "BuckleRoos" and others) directing.Reality Round-Up:
Fox is trying to convince "So You Think You Can Dance" producer and judge NIGEL LYTHGOE to come back and help "American Idol" survive now that SIMON COWELL is gone. Nigel helped launch "Pop Idol" in the UK with creator SIMON FULLER and ran "American Idol" for six years before Fox gave him the boot in 2008.
But, with ratings slipping and a need to reboot the show, Fox wants Nigel to come back. That could mean more changes at the judge's table. The Hollywood Reporter says JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE and ELTON JOHN have been added to the Simon replacement list, as well as Nigel himself.
However --reps for both Elton and Justin have denied the story about their being in the running to replace Simon --with Justin's rep telling the blog ComingSoon that Justin's way too busy with his film career. His films coming up: "The Social Network," "Bad Teacher," "Friend with Benefits" and he's been offered the lead in "I'm.mortal" as well. (Marino)Grace notes:
DIANA ROSS's niece claims she is the illegitimate love child of MICHAEL JACKSON. The Los Angeles Times says MOCIENNE PETIT JACKSON has asked a judge for permission to conduct a DNA test to prove this. Mocienne says she was conceived in 1975 when a 17-year-old Michael slept with her mother, BARBARA, who is the sister of Diana Ross. TMZ.com says Mocienne also claims that Michael's mother KATHERINE tried to have her abducted to protect the singer's reputation and that the seven kidnappers were all murdered. (Marino)
Off the beaten path:
A hotel in Tokyo has built a special room just for train enthusiasts.
Orange.co.uk says the Washington Hotel in the town of Akihabara has unveiled a special suite that comes complete with fully functioning model railroads. For about 270-bucks a night, guests can navigate the trains around their room and through a scale model of the town of Akihabara.
Guests can bring their own model trains from home, or borrow some from the front desk. (Still)Which state has the laziest workers?:
Try Louisiana. Business Week magazine complied five years of data from the Labor Department and found Louisianans sleep more than eight hours and 44 minutes a day, watch TV for three, socialize for an hour, relax for 30 minutes and only work an average of two hours and 41 minutes a day.
Obviously, a lot of non-productive hours at work.
The report makes the South appear pretty lazy. In the top 10 "laziest" states, eight are from the South.
Least inactive state? North Dakota, where folks sleep just eight hours and four minutes a night; watch 2 hours, 19 minutes of television; socialize for 40 minutes; and relax for 22 minutes. The average time North Dakotans spend working is just over 5 hours. (Maiman)
