Sick Bay:
"American Idol" fans are gonna be shocked to hear that Season Three winner FANTASIA BARRINO survived what appears to be a suicide attempt last Monday. TMZ.com says she was treated for a (quote), "medication overdose" caused by taking aspirin and a sleeping aid together. Her manager, BRIAN DICKENS, who said her condition was not life-threatening and that she was under a lot of stress, and although she was "dehydrated and exhausted" at the time, she is now in stable condition.
Fantasia's had a long week. The overdose took place the same day she was named as the "other woman" in the divorce of PAULA and ANTWAUN COOK and that Paula claimed the singer made a sex tape with her husband which destroyed their marriage. Fantasia has denied breaking up their marriage --in fact, Fantasia believed they separated late last summer. But we still don't know is if Fantasia's overdose was accidental or intentional. Bond was set yesterday at $25-hundred for STEVEN SLATER, the JetBlue flight attendant who had a meltdown on board a plane as it taxied for arrival.
Slater, 38, was busted Monday for cursing loudly over a JetBlue public address system, releasing the emergency slide, grabbing two beers, and sliding away to freedom after a passenger had cursed him out and hit him in the head with the door to the overhead bin.
Slater said after the recent death of his father and helping his cancer-stricken mother, the altercation with an unruly passenger was the last straw. His mom and his ex-wife have both come to his defense.
He's also attracted an online following, complete with a Facebook page and "Free Steven Slater" t-shirts for sale. (Maiman)Driver's Ed:
Cops in Toronto, Canada pulled a guy over who was driving on the highway in a motorized wheelchair.
The Toronto Sun says it happened last weekend on Highway 407. The unidentified "motorist" --in his 40s or 50s --was allegedly caught driving in the fast lane in the electric mobility device.
Police would not say whether they ticketed the guy. But, they did confirm electric wheelchairs are not supposed to be blocking freeway traffic.
Editor's note: That's right! Those things are only allowed to block the aisle at Wal Mart. (Still)Broadcast, cable and video news:
Will "Liz Lemon" from "30 Rock" finally find true love this season? KATRINA BOWDEN dished to In Touch Weekly that there's lots of big surprises on the way and MATT DAMON will be returning to show! The toothy A-lister has done pop-ins playing "Carol" --a pilot that's captured the heart of TINA FEY's signature character. (Lee)
The Hollywood rumor mill:
Sources say "Harry Potter" co-star EMMA WATSON may have the inside track for the coveted role of Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." James Bond star DANIEL CRAIG has signed to be the hero of the movie based the first novel in STIEG LARSSON's best-selling trilogy, which --of course-- opens the door to sequel possibilities should the first movie do well.
Other actresses said to be coveting the part include KRISTEN STEWART, NATALIE PORTMAN, KEIRA KNIGHTLEY, SCARLETT JOHANSSON and ZOE SALDANA --some heavyweight competition.
The reason the short hairdo attracted such attention is because the character of Lisabeth --a computer programmer-- has a short, spiky hairdo.ELVIS PRESLEY's:
granddaughter may be up for a role in the next "Mad Max" film. The Hollywood Reporter says RILEY KEOUGH has been approached by writer-director GEORGE MILLER for the fourth installment in the series which will be called "Fury Road." The story takes place right where 1985's "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" leaves off, which means MEL GIBSON is too old to reclaim that role. TOM HARDY, who stars in "Inception" is the new Max. The cameras will roll early next year. Riley's most recent film was "The Runaways." She played MARIE CURRIE, twin sister of the band's lead singer, CHERIE, who was played by DAKOTA FANNING. (Marino)
