Fifty before, but only one like this one. It was built to reflect the last 52 weeks. One review called it "somber" ... maybe more than one. Read the LA Times take on the show.
It was a different type of CMA show. Not focusing on the "hit" material only, the show used Reba, Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts and Dierks in rich salutes to Glen Campbell, Don Williams, Troy Gentry and the Vegas mass shooting victims.
Carrie Underwood's take on "Softly and Tenderly" was spiritual. The whole show just had a very odd vibe. When someone did a regular garden-variety tune, you looked ahead to see what was next.
The political humor was sharp and measured. You keep hearing that America has lost its sense of humor. That may be true based on Internet reaction to the show.
The winners were not totally predictable. Miranda and Chris might have been. Garth deserved it. No one is better in front and in back of the camera. The Chris Stapleton phenom within the CMA is something...
One industy blog site wanted more demands for gun control. People played it too safe, they said. Why should this award show be a place to lead social change? It could have made that step. It just didn't feel right to go there. Sometimes you just need a break from reality.
The ratings were up. The stars were out. Reba, Alan and the great tributes. Powerful CMA show for 2017.
Garth Brooks tickets for the final concert stop go on sale Friday, Nov. 10th ... that should be very interesting. In 2010 he sold 151,000 for the in retirement flood shows ... what will he do now ... the six-time CMA Entertainer of the Year.
The lip-sync CMA performance ... Garth knows PR. He came back and said he did it. I saw it and thought it was too perfect. Told a good broadcast buddy he said no way ... GB's voice wasn't right ... so he did it ... Live is great but this rare situation was fine. It was with me. Dick Clark's Bandstand ... did they ever sing live?
What is Sturgill Simpson's publicity stunt all about? He couldn't get a ticket? Really? Hmm ... It was effective ... but why? What was the intended goal? Just publicity? Not impressed.
The CMA Red Carpet 2017 SUCKED! The star power is weaker every year. It's too long ... 110 yards? What artist wants to face that? And for the most part they DON'T.
Here's how to fix it ... SHOTGUN start it ... try to work with media on who plans to actually walk ... Tell the PR people
The plan ... mix the big and small media up a little ... Some get at least one "A" list person to each third ... This goes for CMT, too ... The BMI carpet was GREAT this year ... hear the word GREAT! They went from worst to first! Well run and managed so people can't hog the talent as some media outlets do ... Help the live TV people who have unique problems ... let us book in advance people for time slots ... be creative ... The ASCAP carpet was good.
The CMA was just awful ... Call a meeting something...
It has grown from great to just horrible!
