Jimmy Carter en route to Indy 500
OK, the key to the ignition for summer is on and away we go. This weekend it's racing. Lots of folks heading to either Charlotte or Indy. Music is drawing the A-list singers to Waxahatchie for the big festival featuring George Strait.
Little Rock is smoking with its Riverfest, which blends country and classic rock and bit of R&B.
Gas prices suck, but got to hit the road to drive around America. Got to see Tim & Faith, want to see Brad Paisley again, probably see Kenny. Summer is about the outdoors, and let's pray it's not so hot that we burn up!
The concert business for Country is strong. If only the CD sales could show some life.
Carrie on Idol this week will probably show another hit on her sales curve. The show itself was hit-and-miss all season. Paul McCartney reportedly thinks the show is cheesy. I agree, but I still keep it on. Thirty million viewers for the finals is not bad.
Summer should be a time for radio to shine. We will see if promotions can keep radio out in the forefront. What great memories many of us have involving radio and summertime.
The Big Bam Shows, the WVOK Shower of Stars shows in Alabama. I'm sure you have your own. The radio and live music made the summers.
Gary Allan was on Oprah talking for the first time about his wife Angela's suicide. It was a hard show to watch. He was strong as he told Oprah about the last two years. Nothing could be worse than telling three children that their mom took her life. How do you ever bounce back from that? If you fish around www.oprah.com, you can find the detailed write-up on the show.
The CMA Music festival is two weeks away ... SCREAMMMMMMMMMMMMM ...
The ACM folks say they do want their show moved back to April. The thugs at CBS get to make that decision. No handicapping yet on the possible outcome.
Tim is going to record that ACM song we think and have it out soon. It's 35 already with YouTube play!
I'm seeing a slight bit of Carrie backlash in the media. The Kelly Clarkson fans mostly. They know Carrie is the ultimate Idol star.
It's the weekend. Broadcasting is a great hobby but a lifelong business. Whew ... I'm not sure the record business is any better right now. The times they are a-changing!
