I love creating a Thanksgiving menu. There are the standards that work every year; an amazing carrot soup is my starter. I make this two days ahead of time so the flavors can meld; there is also green beans with bacon and pearl onions, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing with sausage, rolls and butter, cranberry and orange sauce, a fruit salad, jello mold, spinach and garlic and the turkey. I always ask my kids what they really want because their palates don's always extend as far as mine. This year one daughter requested brown rice, which I'm happy to make. Deserts are a whole different story because I'm the only one in my immediate family that likes pie. One year I even made funnel cakes to please everyone. This year will be different because my sisters birthday is onThanksgiving and she along with my family prefer chocolate cake. My plan is to bake her the most amazing three layer dark chocolate cake she has ever had. And to have a pumpkin pie on the side....just in case.
