A visit from Hurricane Maire, that's what I would have to call it....or her. Two girlfriends were passing through town and asked if they could come for an overnight visit. They were doing a "Thelma and Louise" type trip and driving to Miami. Now I've had a lot of house guests, and I enjoy having company. Im all about fresh sheets on the beds, a good meal, clean towels, the works. When my kids were little I'd have them draw welcome cards and teach them how to prepare a room so someone feels at home. By understanding the value of ones time, I always saw it as a gift when visitors "checked in." My friend Chris has a golden rule when visiting others, she says to stay just a few days and leave them wanting more instead of wishing you were gone. In the case of my friend Maire, two days would have been impossible. After two hours it was pretty obvious that she is a much different "Thelma" than she shows her colleagues. Either that, or she just really needed a vacation. Her "Louise" was apologizing left and right, pleading that Maire was functioning on way too many cylinders. Just speaking with her wore you out. I felt bad for "Louise" and came up with a plan to take everyone to a city event where there would be a little something for everyone. This seemed to satisfy Maire, who took off to the nearest place to dance, as soon as we entered the event. My kids and I settled into a sweet seat for a free Muse concert, and I turned my phone off. Would I have been surprised if Mare showed up on stage? No. Do I think houseguest stories on air could make for great content? YES!

Feather Dusters and Brooms
For feather dusters, shake off the dust outside. Or, use canned air spray (typically for computer keyboards) to eliminate every speck of dust, says Fontana.
Brooms, on the other hand, need a little more care. If your broom is still grimy even after removing debris from the bottom, gently wash the ends with warm water and a gentle detergent, says Le Masurier. Rinse well. Let it air dry (ideally, outdoors) bristles up. Then, store your broom on an elevated hook or upright with bristles up to prolong its life and to keep them stick straight.• Get more She Prep at www.ShePrep.com
