Fall

I'm surprised by how many friends have commented on the official first day of fall. I'm not drawn to info that involves "this day in history" or "it's speak like a Pirate Day" even thought the latter might get you a free donut. It's just stuff to invest. So when it comes to naming one day to be something outside a major holiday, I'm not intrigued. But I am now, just by the sheer volume of comments I have heard. Pumpkin Spice lattes are a bigger buzz word that usual, and Christmas ads are already appearing on television. I have a few holiday gifts tucked away, because I saw something perfect for someone else while I was traveling. My friend Susan has a son with a December birthday; her recent Facebook post read "just finished shopping and wrapping Michael's birthday and Christmas presents." I applaud her and my sister, who does the Christmas in July thing, but I'm just not there. An apple orchard and pumpkin patch are my next destinations, complete with crunchy leaves under my feet. I am happy to wait on the snow.

Have a rainy day tech plan: Of course we wish for nothing but crisp fall weather and light jackets, but depending on where you live, that is not always the case. When the weather isn't on your side, make sure you have a plan for keeping the kids occupied. This might include arts and crafts, video games, reading, or board games.
