My Cardiologist co-hosted with me on the air for Go Red for Women Day. She is a brilliant doctor, highly active in building awareness that heart disease is the number one killer of women. I am one of those women who had heart disease. My story is not the norm as a strep bacteria traveled to a tiny little leak in my aortic valve while I was pregnant but I did get heart disease and a new heart valve and I did get better, thank you God. At the time all of that happened I was living a great, healthy, super fit, super clean eating California lifestyle. You would never have thought I'd have such a health challenge. The other conundrum I find is my doctor, the same age as me, has spent so much of her life saving other hearts that she didn't keep caring for her own. She is now trying to get fit and lead her own healthy lifestyle, the one she preaches to her patients.
She and her husband take an online gentle yoga class every morning and she finds this class hard. But she is determined.
Is all of this a practice what you preach situation? I don't think so. She represents many who excel at their calling and super serve others but they put themselves last. We could go through a list off careers and find this is not a unique situation. Except for your radio career. You have a voice that speaks to all situations and music that blend right into whatever lifestyle she is living. It's matters. You matter. Remind her that she does too, even if she's the best baker in the world and never cooks at home, even if she's an electrical engineer and her house is disconnected. Even if she's and out of shape doctor. She's listening.
One more thing, please keep yourself healthy with yearly heart checks and physicals.
