If you didn't hear, a 50-mile traffic backup on Interstate 95 in eastern Virginia happened a few weeks ago after a severe winter storm.
One jackknifed tractor trailer accident and more than a foot of snow left hundreds of motorists stranded on the highway for more than 24 hours. Pictures of stopped cars on snowy roads filled my social feed fast, even a Senator stuck in this mess couldn't get a rescue. Even an Amtrak passenger train was halted for more than 30 hours.
A horrible situation, yes, but not without its silver lining stories. Truck drivers walked car- to-car with supplies, moms in need of diapers found help from other cars with plenty, and there were no reports of any deaths or injuries.
A plan for keeping a car emergency kit is a hot topic no matter what region you're traveling in. Here's your checklist.
