School is officially over. I know it varies regionally but those on the East Coast have caught up with the rest of the country and have now "been there and done that" with the graduation. Now the summer schedule sets in and whether she has kids or not life has a different feel. She could be sleeping in a little later, making more trips to the beach and smelling like her favorite coconut sun screen. Taking kids to summer camp is usually easier than dragging them to science class and the lack of homework gives her evenings a whole new list of options. Taking a class, taking it easy, taking a vacation- it's all in the works. It's a free time without a pending holiday or event that requires much preparation like Christmas or a family reunion. Statistics show that visitation to our National Parks has really grown, as has tent camping. Tent camping visits to 360 sites run by the National Park service increased to 3.14 million in 2009 and is expected to grow even more this summer. And it's not just families who enjoy canoeing, hiking, fishing and sleeping under the star; couples, singles groups and college kids are all included. So it might be a good idea to think back to our scouting roots where we learned how to make a fire with kindling and whittling a stick thin enough to roast a hotdog or marshmallow for s'mores. If you need a refresher course on how family bonding can truly happen inside the confines of weatherproofed tarp and the great outdoors or the difference between an RV and a Day Pack log on to www.familycampinggear.com

Julie Morgenstern (yes, just like Rhoda) is the Queen of De-cluttering. Her column on Yahoo Shine is called "55 Things You Don't Need After All: A Five-Day Challenge to Cleaning." She challenges us to such tasks as getting rid of ten items of clothing that don't fit, flatter, or have never been worn. Some women grow attached to their clothes whether they fit or not. Her book, SHED Your Stuff, Change Your Life: A Four-Step Guide to Getting Unstuck, has a ton of information and you can follow her on Twitter where she's always encouraging a new thing to discard - at www.juliemorgenstern.com.
