Today we honor the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a man who not only dreamed and changed the landscape of our culture but continues to encourage us to do the same. Behind this influential civil rights leader was a very strong woman; his wife, Coretta Scott King.
Martin and Coretta were introduced by a friend, Mary Powell, in 1952 on the phone.
Coretta says about meeting Martin: "...he was looking for a wife. I wasn't looking for a husband, but he was a wonderful human being...I still resisted his overtures, but after he persisted, I had to pray about it...I had a dream, and in that dream, I was made to feel that I should allow myself to be open and stop fighting the relationship. That's what I did, and of course the rest is history. "
They were married on June 1953 with her father Reverend King officiating. They had four children, 2 boys and 2 girls and, like everyone else, had memories that are precious and times that would probably do differently. They rest peacefully next to each other in a grave at the Martin Luther King Jr. national Historic site in Atlanta.
Their legacy lives on and if you look back to how they were introduced that's where the dream began.

She Diet
She is trying to not overdo the calories. Could her plate size help her reduce her portion size? In The 9-inch Diet (Powerhouse), it states that much of Americans' weight issues
stem from plate size and portion control. Today's standard plate measures about 12 inches; in the 1940s, a standard plate was 9 inches. Our plates and portions grew throughout the intervening years. This book is not necessarily a diet, but a way
to encourage good portion control. The commitment requires you get rid of your large plates and shop for food that will fit on your newer smaller plates-going so far as to ask your butcher to cut meat to fit on the plate. Second helpings are approved only for holidays and special celebrations.
