Safe pranks, office pranks, being silly with your family...the possibilities are endless on this April Fools Day. Of course it has a web site- aprilfool.com, so here's what they give as the official definition of this day: "April Fools Day, sometimes called All Fools Day, is the day of unknown origin. Yet, most of the western world knows this is a day set aside for good hearted pranks, hoaxes, gags, and giggles. It is a day that the gullible, well...watch out! This day is spent trying to get people to believe in falsehoods or otherwise run a "fools" errand or unnecessary action. Good "fooler's" take advantage and try to get their victim early as possible so that they don't realize they are being fooled."
That's a pretty technical description. Many family fun magazines dish out recipes that make one food look like another, for example a vanilla ice cream sunday is made with mashed potatoes and gravy. I'm not big on playing with my food or encouraging my kids to do this. Many on air gimmicks are met with listeners who are looking out for the prank. One April Fools Day, when I was working on Young Country in San Francisco, I made a big deal that "Garth" would be on my show the following day. I simply and specifically said Garth", I'm not sure it was worth the reaction when my listeners heard a fantastic impression of geeky Garth from World the next night but it's a memory for me. My advice, keep it fun, not nasty and pretending to be pregnant is NOT an option unless it's true.
