A study figures out that text messaging behind the wheel resulted in 16.141 deaths in 2002-2007, and that would mean more are on the way, since more people appear to be doing it. They suggest criminal charges for texting while driving and "routine examination of cell phone records in accident investigations" would be deterrents, but I don't think the people doing it think they're going to be getting into an accident, nor do they think they'll ever get caught.
