This case of a Michigan state assistant attorney general writing criticism of the gay student body president at the University of Michigan on his personal blog raises the issue of whether a public employee can say whatever he or she wants on a personal site on personal time. It's tricky, because there's the First Amendment, but there's also representing the state AND having your possibly objectionable comments reflecting on your employer, and whether they should have a say in that.
