Oh, Well, It'll Help Work Off The Brisket On Rye And The Kasha Varnishkes

I'm Jewish, but some of the things that Orthodox Jews have to deal with are a little alien to me. Take the Sabbath restrictions on doing, well, anything: You used to be able to take elevators only when you didn't have to push a button to ride them, so a lot of buildings in New York and in Israel installed elevators that stop on every floor on Friday and Saturday. Now, some top rabbi has decreed that you can't take elevators on the Sabbath, period, even the stop-on-every-floor kind. Why? Who knows? And now, some folks have to walk all the way up and down their high-rise buildings. I missed that passage in the Old Testament. Or the Torah, but I don't remember any Hebrew, anyway, so I could be off there.
