Remember, This Guy Is In Charge Of Others' Education
-
You do have the right to free speech in America, but that comes with the understanding that if you say something hurtful and stupid, you may suffer consequences. Take the school board Vice President in Arkansas who posted ani-gay comments on his Facebook page. These weren't garden-variety gay slurs, these included saying that he wanted gay people to commit suicide, promising to disown his own children if they were gay, and saying that he likes how gays "often give each other AIDS and die." What should be done about this? Again, he has the right to say outrageous things and be intolerant. But what consequences should he face from that? Job loss? Ostracism? Nothing? What do you do with a guy who says things that stupid? (CNN)
