Sorry For The Mistake. Here's The Number For The Unemployment Office
-
This sucks: A woman failed her background check for a low-level security clearance and was fired. But the check was a mistake -- the Social Security Administration screwed up, and admitted as much within days, telling her employer so. But the company wouldn't rehire her, and three months later, she's still unemployed and broke. The company took the opportunity to fire her, citing unnamed "performance shortfalls," probably meaning that she made a salary and they don't want to have to pay it. And she has practically no recourse, since she was an at-will employee of a private firm. Unfair? Probably. Life is unfair, increasingly so.
